Theme
The theme I think the book revolves around is that when doors close or when your life changes for the worst, there is always other doors out there waiting to be open, some even better than the ones before. I think this is a theme because in the beginning of the book he mopes about his dead parents and his life before they died. At the ended, however, he contemplates changing the world by making friends with the Leviathan, an ally, a really important thing in a war.
Another theme I can interpret from this story is that decisions have consequence. They go back to this theme a lot it seems when Alek makes a mistake. I also saw this when reading the story when everything that happens comes out to be good and/or bad.
---awkwardness
